why do we have a tendency to complicate things? is it the onslaught of media we experience on any given day? perhaps the self-centered(ness) that is subliminally encouraged in western society? or the overwhelming since of powerlessness that you feel when even your most basic of human needs go unmet, as often experienced in developing worlds and war-torn societies?

i'll leave the societal psychoanalysis to the experts but this i know, we all bleed red.

do unto others...

this is a timeless adage that every culture adopts in some form or fashion...proving it's a humanitarian law. i wrote this after a personal experience that proved this golden principle was not in play...meaning somewhere, somehow..."they" had lost touch with their own humanity. how else does someone justify treating someone the way i was treated?

so bewildered, i had to step back from myself and could only conclude , the people had lost touch with their own humanity, with their own ability to chose between right and wrong.  life is a series of choices, it is what we make it, even when we feel powerless. choice is empowering even in the darkest of circumstances. as oscar wilde stated, "we're all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars."
